Joe Sowerby has closed some big real estate deals, but he gets much more excited about finding homes for cats and dogs. Sowerby has used his business skills as an unpaid volunteer to organize what he says are the two largest pet adoption events in the country: "Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo," hosted by the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak on weekends in May and September, and "Pet-A-Palooza," which is held annually at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights.
